The CANopen Lift specification for lift control systems has been revised, with CAN in Automation (CiA) releasing draft version 2.4.0 of its CiA 417 application profile.
The update introduces a power-supply unit to the specification and expands the functional scope of existing units through new parameters and additional process-data objects (PDOs). These changes are intended to strengthen the communication framework used by lift components and control systems.
CiA has also made editorial improvements across all four parts of the specification. The revisions include clearer wording, improved readability and a restructuring of selected subclauses, making the technical document easier for developers and system designers to navigate.
CANopen Lift defines control functions and CANopen interfaces for equipment used in passenger and freight lifts, including sensors such as operating panels, and actuators such as car drives and door units. The profile supports interoperability between products from different suppliers, reducing the programming and configuration burden for system developers.
First released in 2003, CANopen Lift has become widely used across the industry. CiA says devices based on the profile are now offered by more than 60 member companies. The latest draft proposals, DSP version 2.4.0, are currently available to CiA members.
