TK Elevator has been selected to provide the vertical-mobility infrastructure for Fira Barcelona’s new Pavilion Zero, securing a major project that will include around 60 elevators, escalators and lifting systems.

The project forms part of the expansion of Fira Barcelona’s Gran Via venue, one of Europe’s major exhibition and congress destinations. Pavilion Zero will add approximately 60,000 sq m to the venue, taking the overall complex to around 300,000 sq m. Fira Barcelona welcomes up to 3 million visitors annually.

Around 60 Vertical-Mobility Units

TK Elevator’s scope covers a combination of passenger transportation and heavy-duty logistics equipment designed to support both large visitor volumes and the movement of equipment required for major exhibitions.

The package includes:

  • 20 EOX elevators
  • 26 velino escalators
  • Heavy-duty freight elevators
  • High-capacity platform lifts
  • A panoramic elevator
  • Other passenger and logistics elevators

The 26 velino escalators will feature 1,000 mm-wide steps and a 30-degree incline, connecting levels with height differences ranging from approximately 4 to 10 metres.

EOX Elevators to Support High Passenger Volumes

The installation will include 20 EOX elevators, TK Elevator’s digitally connected, eco-efficient and AI-ready elevator platform.

Several configurations will be deployed across Pavilion Zero. High-capacity units will accommodate loads of up to 1,600 kg or 21 passengers, with speeds reaching 3 metres per second and travel heights of up to 74 metres.

The project will also feature 1,000 kg elevators capable of carrying 13 passengers, additional 1,600 kg units serving different sections of the pavilion and a 1,000 kg panoramic elevator.

Heavy-Duty Lifts Designed for Event Logistics

One of the notable aspects of the project is the scale of its freight-handling infrastructure.

TK Elevator will provide freight elevators capable of carrying up to 9,000 kg, along with platform lifts rated for loads of up to 10,000 kg. The package also includes specially engineered 6,500 kg electric freight elevators.

These systems are intended to facilitate the movement of exhibition equipment, machinery and other heavy materials during event setup, operation and dismantling.

The combination of passenger elevators, escalators and heavy-duty lifting systems reflects the different mobility requirements of a large international exhibition venue, where passenger circulation and behind-the-scenes logistics need to operate simultaneously.

Pavilion Zero Expands Fira Barcelona’s Gran Via Venue

Pavilion Zero is being developed as part of the expansion of the Gran Via exhibition complex and is promoted by Fira 2000.

The additional 60,000 sq m will provide flexible exhibition and congress capacity for major international events hosted at Fira Barcelona, including MWC Barcelona, Integrated Systems Europe and Smart City Expo World Congress.

Much of the vertical-mobility equipment for the project will be manufactured through TK Elevator’s European industrial network in Spain and Germany.

Bora Gülan, CEO Europe Africa at TK Elevator, said the project combines the company’s EOX elevators, escalators and highly engineered heavy-duty elevators with European manufacturing and digital connectivity.

Pedro Martín, CEO of TK Elevator for Southern Europe and Africa, highlighted the scale and technical complexity of Pavilion Zero and the importance of the Fira Barcelona expansion to the city’s economic and international development.

Large-Scale Vertical Mobility for Modern Exhibition Infrastructure

The Pavilion Zero contract highlights the growing importance of integrated vertical-mobility systems in large exhibition, convention and infrastructure projects.

Beyond moving visitors between floors, venues of this scale require high-capacity systems capable of transporting exhibition materials and heavy equipment efficiently. With passenger elevators, escalators, freight elevators and platform lifts included within the same project, TK Elevator’s package addresses both sides of that requirement.

Once completed, Pavilion Zero will further expand the capacity of Fira Barcelona’s Gran Via complex while adding a substantial new installation to TK Elevator’s portfolio of vertical-mobility projects in Europe.
